Siena Creative Photo Awards 2025

In my opinion, the Ivory Gull is the most beautiful bird in the world! Therefore, it is a pleasure to let you know that this photograph, titled “Angel of the Arctic”, this weekend achieved a Commended Award in the Siena Creative Photo Awards 2025 in Italy. Given the remote nature of the Ivory Gulls’ lives, it is challenging to make precise determinations about their populations. However, a decline in sea ice due to climate change is purported to be the primary cause of their declining birth rates. It is estimated that only 21,000 of these majestic birds remain, giving this image a more haunting beauty.

The image was taken in front of the Monaco Glacier in Liefdefjorden in Svalbard, Norway. Thanks to WildPhoto Travel and my good friend and guide, Yves Adams, for excellent Zodiac driving. Please click on the image to enlarge and see it in 1400px quality.
